This cemetery has been called by many different names: McDow, McDowell, Methodist Evangelical, Gowin, Hagen, Picket, Ferguson. The County Clerk's office has said that depending on what family had the most influence through the years is what the cemetery was called. The Drainer Addition is a section that was donated by the Drainer family in recent years. From research done by Allen L. Austin, 2005

Dec. 1, 2011 Note: Photos for all the headstones that are currently in McDow are posted here on Find A Grave. A nice lady by the name of Diane L. posted all that she took. I have my own copies that I took in September 2003. I will take a trip to Otterville and check for any new headstone in the original section of cemetery and post any I find. I will also check the new (Drainer) section for any also. Allen L. Austin

The cemetery is located in Otter Creek Township on the west side of Otterville Road (County Road 9).

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) feature ID for the cemetery is 1747836 (McDowell Cemetery / Gowin Cemetery / McDow Cemetery / Pickett Cemetery).
