According to "The Cemeteries of Upson County, Georgia" compiled by the Upson Historical Society, from the Thomaston Courthouse square, go South on Highway 19 about 5.4 miles, and turn right onto Martin Church Road. The cemetery is 1.4 miles on the left side of the road.
The small cemetery is Parcel Number 062 000 in the records of the Upson County Tax Assessor's Office.
According to one source, Martin's Chapel Methodist Church was organized in 1867, and a church structure was built in 1874. No structure remains today. Martin's Chapel had the following charter members: Elisha Martin, Mrs. Elisha Martin, John M. Martin, Mrs. John M. Martin, J. M. Martin, Mrs. J. M. Martin, Isaac Coleman, Mrs. Isaac Coleman, Job B. Smith, Mrs. Job B. Smith, and Mrs. Mariah Adams.
The earliest known grave markers date from the 1850s. There are many unidentified graves which are marked with field stones. There are also several Civil War veterans buried in the cemetery.
In March 2015, a cemetery sign was placed along Martin Church Road. On June 19, 2015, The Thomaston Times published an article titled "Martin Cemetery Researched" which contained some information on its history and some of the pioneers and veterans buried there. Later in the year, a wooden gate was placed at the cemetery.
