History: An article in the August 6, 1914 issue of the Clinton Chronicle, printed under the headline "Stafford" reported the following: "A meeting was held last Saturday night at the church and trustees elected to purchase a grave yard. Timothy Miller sold two acres off the southwest corner of the 80 acres that joins Osborn's. The trustees are York, Larue, Morgan, Roberts and Osborn. They are now fixing up the ground." The deed dated August 3, 1914 bears Timothy Miller's "X" witnessed by E.R. York and J.W. Anderson. Timothy is the grandfather of Gene Miller who now serves as a trustee. The land, a square plot, was deeded to the five trustees of the Peoples Cemetery Association of Stafford and their successors in office. The first fence and sign was put up by the Stafford Home Demonstration Club and A.H. Weichel and Howard Parrott made the gates for the cemetery. In 1969, the Cemetery Association set up a perpetual care fund. The interest derived from it is used for the upkeep of the cemetery. A memorial service is held at 2 p.m. on the Sunday preceding Memorial Day each year. The service is held under the U.S. flag that flies from the flagpole that once stood in front of the Stafford school. ~submitted by Betty Miller Legal: SW 1/4 4-12-18
