Fraim Cemetery, located west of Flippin at the intersection of Kentucky Routes 678 and 100, bears the namesake of its most famous gravesite of John M. Fraim, a name now fixed by time and usage. George B. Hughes (1889-1996), whose parents are buried here, always thought of this as Flippin Cemetery. The earliest gravesites here are of the Flippin Family. The unmarked gravesites of JAMES FLIPPIN (d. 1858) and wife ISABEL (Brown) FLIPPIN (d. 1859) were probably the first burials here, followed by five (5) of their children who had remained in the community: Pleasant (d. 1860-70), Rhoda Isabel (d. 1863), Permelia Ann (d. 1866), Rholoy (d. 1885), and James McAdoo (d. 1887). Rhoda Isabel (Flippin) Dunn has the earliest monument here. Her sister, Permelia Ann (Flippin) Fraim, and brother, Rholoy, also have monuments here.
Among the death certificates recorded for burials here since 1911—when state record-keeping began, we find both "Fraim Cemetery" and "Flippin Cemetery" listed as the place of burial. John M. Fraim (d. 1883) was buried here as an in-law of the Flippin Family. His wife, Permelia Ann (Flippin) Fraim (d. 1866), had been buried here previously. Their son, George T. Fraim (d. 1925), has a monument here, and his death certificate shows "Flippin Cemetery" as his place of burial. The local fame of John M. Fraim and his family's burials here undoubtedly contributed to the alternate namesake. However, the name, "Fraim Cemetery," apparently was not fixed in public usage until the publication of Monroe County's first cemetery book (Peden, 1974). Nevertheless, some descendants still think of it as Flippin Cemetery.
