From the "History of Butts County,Georgia,1826-1976" pages 285-286 The Mt.Vernon Baptist Church was first organized as a Primitive Baptist Church on October 18,1878.it first met in the old academy at Indian Springs.On July 13,1885, the church bought for $25 three acres of land, part of which was set aside as a cemetery, for its present location on Mt.Vernon Road.The cemetery is located behind the church and is well-maintained.
From Jackson town square-Follow GA Hwy 36 west 0.4 miles to Brownlee Rd.Turn left, travel 4 miles to Mountain View Rd.Turn left and go 0.8 miles to Mt. Vernon Church Rd.Turn left, go 0.1 miles, cemetery on left.
