The church formerly associated with this cemetery, The Pine Grove Methodist Church, was organized in the early 20th century and no longer exists. The church and cemetery were on land formerly belonging to Allen Greene, who is buried here. Also on the property were other buildings including a store, shoe factory, and several homes. Some of Greene's descendants believe the cemetery to have grown out of his family burial ground, later being contributed as a community cemetery. Much like other local cemeteries at the time, sections of the burial lands were segregated, with the fenced in portion being donated for white burials, and the western portion (formerly referred to as "the slave area") was designated for Black citizens' burials.

The sign at the entrance to Pine Grove Cemetery was recently replaced and now reads PECAN GROVE CEMETERY.
Directions from Ruston: go north on highway 167 to the community of Vienna. Turn left/west onto highway 146 aka Old Wire Road. About 3 miles down, turn right onto highway 822. The cemetery is a few yards further, on the left.
