Mays Hill Cemetery contains two distinct cemeteries appropriated for the Presbyterians in 1839 and for the Baptists in 1849. They were deliberately situated just outside the town boundary near the top of Mays Hill ridge in a sparsely populated area, yet within reasonable reach of the inhabitants of Parramatta.

The cemetery has fallen victim over the years to vandalism and to the expansion and contraction of its clay soil. Consequently, there are many fallen and broken headstones and others lying face down. However, the cemetery is now receiving much needed protection and maintenance from Holroyd City Council and the Friends of Mays Hill Cemetery group. It was classified by the National Trust in 1979.
