Gulgong's prosperity is derived from the gold rush pioneers of the 1870's. This historic town has a largely unchanged street-scape from those early days. Prior to the ‘rush' the Wiradjuri people lived in the area. The famous Australian poet, Henry Lawson, lived in Gulgong as a child.
The cemetery here is maintained by the Mid-Western Regional Council and is generally well kept. It can be found on the Castlereagh Highway (Mudgee Road). There are denominational sections with some row identification. There are many monumental style headstones but a newer columbarium and lawn section has been established.
