Fort Davis Cemetery
Fort Davis, Stephens County, Texas, USA
Named in honor of Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederacy. Fort Davis was never a fort in the true sense of the word. It was a settlement on the edge of the frontier where citizens banded together for mutual protection. No regular soldiers were ever stationed there. It was 325' x 300' divided into sixteen lots, about 75' sq.
First burial was the child of John Musgraves January 1, 1865. There are many different piles of rocks that have been scattered so it is really hard to tell how many graves are actually here. This cemetery is on private property and not accessible to the public. It is very well kept.
