Haifa British Civil Cemetery was originally established as a civil burial ground during the British Mandate period. This civil cemetery contains 70 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War. There are also 25 non-war burials, all from the Palestine Police Force, and one Dutch war grave.
In the following decades, the area behind the original British section began to be used by the followers of Emma Berger (the "Beit El" / Messianic community). Today, a large active part of the cemetery is known locally as the "Cemetery of the Messianic Communities in Haifa".
Thus, the site combines an historic British civil cemetery at the front and a modern Messianic community cemetery at the back, sharing the same general grounds and access.
