Rows begin at the south of the Cemetery and go north.
* beside the Rows means the stone was there in 1934 but not in in 1979. Names with dates but no stone indicate the stone was not there in May of 2010 but might be found in the winter when the flora has died back.
THE PICTURES OF THE SIGNS ARE NOT OF THE CEMETERY. THE CEMETERY HAS A NATURAL KIND OF FANTASTICAL BEAUTY.
Part of this list was compiled in October 1979 by JULIA INGRAM MATHIS, JOSEPH INGRAM MATHIS and MARTHA YOUNG MATHIS McINTOSH, the great great grandchildren of PHILIP DELANCY MERONEY and MARTHA SEMMES MASSEY MERONEY; also the great-grandchildren of THOMAS INGRAM and ELENOR COVINGTON INGRAM who came to Marshall County around 1845 from Anson County, North Carolina.
There does not appear to have been much, if any, caretaking in a century. The newest burial was in 1970. Regardless of this lack of care, the stones look beautiful in nature's own setting.
The leaves and vines on the Woodmen of the World stones blend as shadows of the real ones growing up them. A green lichen on the granite logs creates an illusion of old logs piled at the foot of a tree stump.
We are in the process of making plans to clean this cemetery in the fall of 2011.
From the intersection of MS-309 S & I-22, at Byhalia, travel South on MS-309 S, going 1.6 mi,; turning West (right) into Phils Trailer Park, going about 450 ft.; turning North (right) to stay on Phils Trailer Park, going 377 ft.; turning West (left) going 250 ft. & park. This large non-maintained cemetery is within a wooded area, about 100 ft. from the roadway, as notated on USGS topo maps.
