This cemetery is located on the old McDonnell/McCord Ranch property located in Knights Valley, Sonoma County, California. William and Eleanor (Ellen) Graves McDonnell first purchased this land in the early 1850s. The property is now privately owned and permission is required to enter the property; there are several locked gates. The largest town in the area is Healdsburg, but Jimtown is used because it's closer to the property than Healdsburg. Knights Valley is not far from Calistoga, Napa Co., CA. Eleanor Graves McDonnell was a survivor of the tragic Donner Party saga of 1846-47. Her husband, William McDonnell, was the step-son of Robert N. Tate, partner of John Deere of the John Deere Plow Co. (June 1848 in Moline, Ill.).

Note: Eleanor Graves and William McDonnell are buried in the Calistoga Pioneer Cemetery, Calistoga, Napa Co., CA.
