The unstable church building was almost completely rebuilt between 1841 and 1844 as part of the restoration by William Flockton. More restoration work was undertaken throughout the later part of the 19th century and the early 20th century.
The church contains relics from the Vernon and Manners families and several magnificent tombs in the Vernon chapel. The church is surrounded by a large rectangular churchyard which contains two 9th century crosses.
