Named because of the Williams and English families who were prominent pioneers in that area who are buried there. According to Lucy Maiben Stewart a descendant of Maiben, Williams and English who lived and died in Finchburg, Monroe, Alabama, USA she describes this private property cemetery as, "In another secluded area several miles "DOWN" the Alabama [From the Maiben Cemetery down the Alabama river off the Lock & Dam Road to Sims Road to Acton Road] river lies another cemetery, similar in design but larger than the Maiben Cemetery. In this one lies the graves of my Williams Ancestors. This one, like the others, depicts much sorrow and grief, for their children died very young. The grave markings alone would prove what wonderful strides have been made in medical history."

Finchburg is named for "Postmaster: James Cunningham Finch." To Kill A Mockingbird author Nell Harper Lee's mother [Frances (Finch) Lee]was a member of the "Finch" Family from VA a family who came to Monroe County and founded Finchburg. She met her husband (Amasa Lee) when he worked for the Flat Creek Mill Company at Finchburg. source: online
