Delegate is a historic village nestled among some of the finest grazing lands in NSW, is also surrounded by areas of natural beauty. The township is steeped in history as one of the first places of settlement on the Monaro. Robert Campbell from Duntroon occupied or 'squatted' at Delegate Station in 1827. The history of the township goes back to 1832 and is the NSW town closest to the Black Allen line – the border between NSW and Victoria. The border was surveyed in 1871 or 1872 but not declared until 2006. There is also a small shrine in the Delegate cemetery marking the site of the first place of worship on the Monaro. In 1916 Delegate was the starting point for the historic 'Men From Snowy River March' when young men from the region marched to the enlistment center in Goulburn to volunteer to serve in the First World War. This is commemorated by a red granite monument at the southern end of the main street.
