Price-Frye Cemetery
Blue Creek, Kanawha County, West Virginia, USA
The Price-Frye Cemetery is on original land grant property of the Edmund Price family, passed down to his grandson Arch Price, and those who married into the Frye family. The Price-Frye Cemetery could be the oldest pioneer cemetery in Elk District. Edmund Price was among the first to occupy land on Elk River, and this is recorded as occurring before 1820. Archibald Price, the 1788 Fort Lee Ranger, is in this cemetery. It is not known his relation to the other Prices. The grandson Arch is likely buried here, though his grave is not inscribed. There are many graves marked with sandstone rocks. It is also family lore that people who were slaves of the Price family are buried here, as well as some native peoples who worked the farm.
The Price-Frye Cemetery is not maintained. Several graves are in the backyard of a house at 221 Pinnell Point. There is no sign nor fence, nor dedicated parking.
Because Pinnell Point Road is a circle and the cemetery is near the center of the circle, it is possible to get to the cemetery from the yards of houses inside the circle. However, there is a way through woods that is a legal ingress. Most of the cemetery is in a small patch of woods. To visit this way, park along the edge of the woods at the southern side of Pinnell Point road. Look for a wagon road into the cemetery, or simply walk north.
