A Historic Site established in 1823, the first church of Carleton County was built here between 1823 and 1830. The Pioneers that established the Richmond Military Settlement in 1818 had a high Anglican population and in 1822 Reverend John Byrne was appointed to minister them. The current church was constructed between 1859-1860, it comprises of a steepled grey stone building, numerous out buildings have been added, including a Hall. A grave yard fills the back lot. Numerous signs claim 'St. John's Anglican' church or cemetery, although there are a few others that state 'St. John the Baptist Anglican' Hall and Cemetery.

The main entrance is off a unassumed gravel road from Royal York Street this road first passes St. Philip's Roman Catholic Cemetery (Lot 12, South of Strachan Street) which fronts on Royal York then St. Andrew's Presbyterian Cemetery (Lot 11, South of Strachan Street) then this cemetery (Lot 10, South of Strachan Street). There is a secondary entrance on Fortune Street which does not have a street address associated.
