During the years 1942-1944, Funter Bay was the site of an interment camp for Aleuts from St Paul and St George Islands. The official name of the camp was the Pribilof Evacuation Camp.

The entire populations of the St Paul and St George villages were moved on the US Attack Transport Delarof, arriving June 24, 1942. Of the several hundred people who were in the camp, some 32 died at Funter Bay, most of whom are buried in this cemetery.
