The Wainui Public Cemetery is located between the townships of Wainui and Silverdale in the northern area of Auckland city. It is easily accessed when travelling north on State Highway 1. Use Exit 396, head west along Wainui Road for 5mins until reaching Cemetery Road on the left.

The cemetery is in a rural location with farmland surrounding three sides. The fourth side borders Wainui Settlers Cemetery, which is a totally separate entity with its own records and separate Find a Grave cemetery profile.

The Wainui Public Cemetery is part of land originally gazetted in 1887 to be reserved for cemetery purposes. In 1995 it was established as a separate entity from Wainui Settlers Cemetery. It was officially opened in 1996. It remains open for burial and ash interment and includes a specific Muslim burial area. The cemetery is administered by the Auckland City Council and most records appear in their online burial database.

Note: As this cemetery is adjacent to the Wainui Settlers Cemetery and has a similar name, check both cemeteries when researching just in case a memorial has been created in the wrong cemetery.
