The church sits on a mound or small hill, and overlooks the village of Bankfoot and the graveyard slopes away from the church. The church was in regular ecclesiastical use until a disastrous fire ripped through it on 26 February 2004, destroying it. Only the blackened walls remain.
The local retired minister, who served in the church for 16 years, records there had been three churches on this site, dating back to 1567.
