Blackford is a village and parish in the south-east of Perthshire. It stands 10 miles north-east of Dunblane and had an Established and a Free church [St. Andrews], the foundation stone of which was laid on 1st March 1844 and completed by Christmas 1844. Blackford Parish Church, still in use, was opened on 30th October 1859 to replace the "Old Kirk" on the hill. Blackford Cemetery stands adjacent to, and to the north of the ruins of Blackford Old Church, both of which are on a hill overlooking the village from the North. The Old Church, [or Old Kirk] which was built in 1738, and following its destruction by fire, was rebuilt in the same year and could accommodate a congregation of 500.
The River Earn bounds the north, Devon water the south, and the Madrany, the Ruthven, and Allan traverse parts of the interior.
