Castlereagh Cemetery stands as the only remaining physical testament to the establishment of the former town of Castlereagh, one of five settlements in the area originally planned by Governor Lachlan Macquarie. The cemetery, which has long ceased operation, contains its earliest inscribed marker dating from 1814. Subsequent inscriptions reveal predominant use throughout the mid to late nineteenth century. Although certain gravestones exhibit signs of deterioration, dedicated restoration efforts by descendants of those interred have significantly preserved their historical value. As a result, the site has been officially recognized by the Heritage Council for its significance.

The cemetery is 8km north of Penrith via Castlereagh Road, Cranebrook Road, and Church Lane
