St. Bartholomew's in Aldbrough is a Grade II Listed building, this status was granted in 1966. The church dates from the mid-14th Century and was built in the Norman style, there is also evidence of Saxon architecture.
There has been a church on this site since the 11th Century, originally built by Ulf. There is a Saxon sundial dedicated to Ulf within the South Nave of the church.
An effigy of Sir John Melsa (D1377), who was governor of York 1292-1296 is located inside the church. His tomb was originally here, his helmet originally part of the funerary achievement is now owned by the Royal Armouries Museum.
The oldest visible headstones within the churchyard date back to 1763.
The Lych Gate entrance is a WW2 War Memorial, dedicated in 1952 to 5 serving soldiers and 2 civilian casualties from Aldbrough Parish.
The church tower holds three bells which chime on the hour.
