Reepham Cemetery
Reepham, Broadland District, Norfolk, England
Reepham Cemetery on Whitwell Road is the principal and currently active burial ground for the historic market town of Reepham, Norfolk. It provides a peaceful and well-maintained resting place for the residents of the amalgamated parishes that now form the modern civil parish of Reepham.
A History of Amalgamation
This cemetery was originally established in the mid-19th century (sources indicate around the 1850s) to serve the ancient parishes of Whitwell and Hackford, separate from an earlier cemetery on Norwich Road which served Reepham and Kerdiston.
Following the union of these four civil parishes into the single parish of Reepham in 1935, the Whitwell Road site became the sole operating burial ground for the whole town, a role it continues to serve today. The earlier Norwich Road cemetery ceased interments around this time and is now managed as a wildlife area.
Cemetery Today
Managed by Reepham Town Council, the cemetery is characterized by its tranquil setting and serves as an important site of local heritage. Its memorial stones and monuments offer a valuable record of the families and individuals who have shaped Reepham's community from the Victorian era to the present day.
The grounds are often managed to balance the need for accessibility with conservation, offering a quiet space for reflection and remembrance.
