The Staggers Cemetery was established by John H. Staggers, who came to Butler County from Edgefield District, South Carolina, with various relatives in the 1820s-1830s. John's first land patent in Butler County was made in 1832 for 80 acres in Section 7, Township 9N, Range 16E. His home and cemetery were on this tract of land.

The Staggers Cemetery site is on Alabama Highway 10 East near Greenville, Alabama, just past John's Creek, on the south side of the highway. The area has been overgrown with pine trees and brush for many years, and there are no visible markers. Said to be buried there are John Staggers, his mother-in-law, Delilah Patterson Roach, and several relatives in his wife's family, including Roach and Patterson. His wife, Elizabeth Margaret Roach, is buried in the Perdue Cemetery in Butler County.
