This cemetery is surrounded by the Sumter National Forest and is an exception in US Forest Service land holdings. It is identified in Forest Service land records as the Mount Tabor Methodist Church Cemetery. The cemetery contains approximately 50 identified graves with more marked by fieldstones and sinks. Graves date to the mid 19th century.

The cemetery is located south of Whitmire on the old Newberry Highway northwest of Hunting Creek. A closed old bar farm gate on the north side of the highway marks an overgrown dirt road that goes through forest to the cemetery.
