Cemetery was formed in 1778 in the northern part of Oryol, near the Naugorskaya road. On the territory of the cemetery there is the Holy Trinity Church, erected in 1828 with donations. Initially, representatives of the nobility were buried in this cemetery, and it was ordered to bury at Troitskoye cemetery the departed from the Podmonastyrskoy, Novotroitskoy and Soldatskoy settlements, as well as from the villages of Sukhaya Orlitza, Kostomarovka, Nekrasovka, Telgino, Zhilina, Kishkinka and Nikulichi. In addition, burials by Oryol charitable institutions were committed here.
In Soviet times, famous people from Oryol and the Oryol region, cultural figures, artists, representatives of the party and state authorities were buried in the cemetery.
In the western part of the cemetery there is a section of the military burials, where in 1954 the burials were transferred from the Bratsk revolutionary cemetery near the former Peter and Paul Cathedral. Soviet soldiers who fell in the battles of the Great Patriotic War for the liberation of Oryol in 1943, the partisans who died during the Great Patriotic War, as well as the servicemen who died in the post-war period were buried in a mass grave.
The territory of the Troitskoye cemetery over time included the Lutheran and Catholic sections, which use to be located separately.
In 2009 Troitskoye cemetery was closed for new burials.
