Killenummery and Killery, a parish of the Catholic Diocese of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise is centred around the townlands south of Dromahair in County Leitrim and the Killery part also includes parts of Sligo. It is known as an island parish as it is surrounded by parishes of the diocese of Kilmore or Elphin. None of the three parish churches; St Mary's Killenummery F91 AW72, St Michael's Killavoggy F91 E959 or St Theresa's Ballintogher F91 X722; have a burial ground attached, so older graveyards are located at the site of previous parish churches, namely -
1. Creevelea Abbey, albeit the cemetery annex here primarily caters for the townspeople of nearby Dromahair who are of Kilmore diocese.
2. Killanummery Graveyard which is centred around the ruins of the old parish church, which was occupied by both the Church of Ireland and Catholic churches, and thus the surrounding graveyard contains burials of both faiths.
3. Killery Graveyard at the Sligo end of the parish was once a Monastic site and the old graveyard is centred around the ruins of the old parish church that was built thereon.
All three are listed as ancient graveyards in the national monument archaeological survey of Ireland.
Carrowcrin was opened circa 1940 as the purpose-built new cemetery, i.e. no church ever stood at this site, and it has been the main parochial burial ground ever since.
