"Gounyan" was the place of first settlement in the Murrumbateman-Yass area, a fertile 60 acre property with a frontage to the Murrumbateman Creek.
The original title deed was granted to George Davis of Yass Plains in fulfilment of a promise made by Governor Lachlan Macquarie on or before 31st March, 1821.
Situated approximately 400m east of Gounyan Homestead the cemetery can be reached by driving 6km north-west from Murrumbateman towards Yass and turning right (eastwards) down Gounyan Road. The turning to the old homestead and cemetery is a further 2km on the right.
