The Traunkirchen cemetery is located right next to the historic Parish Church of the Coronation of Mary in the village center of Traunkirchen, directly on the shores of Lake Traunsee.

The cemetery is closely linked to the centuries-old history of the village and the former Traunkirchen Monastery. The current Baroque parish church was built following the great fire of 1632 and consecrated in 1652.

The cemetery contains numerous historic graves, grave crosses, and monuments. Particularly noteworthy are the traditional wrought-iron grave crosses, which are characteristic of the cemetery culture of the Salzkammergut region. Many older grave inscriptions offer insight into the history of the families and residents of Traunkirchen and the surrounding communities.

Historic memorial plaques are also mounted on the cemetery wall, including one commemorating the victims of the Traunsee disaster of July 31, 1910, in which 15 people lost their lives.
