The first cemetery used in Dover was the Dover Congregational Church
cemetery. This church has been renamed Dover Community Church. In 1949
part (most) of the Congregational Church cemetery was requisitioned for
creation of the Anzac Memorial Park, and headstones were moved to the
current Dover Cemetery. However, not all the headstones were re-erected.
In 1991 many were damaged or lost when left at the Dover tip (garbage
dump) which is right across the road from the cemetery. Those that were
salvaged were placed at the Dover Community Church. An account of this
loss is given in the following article: "Dover, Port Esperance Burial
Places - Part I" by Norm Beechey - Tasmanian Ancestry, Volume 18 Number
2 — September 1997 (p. 116)
