Highampton is a small village approximately 9 miles from Okehampton. The Holy Cross Parish Church is Grade II listed but because of it's poor condition is on the "At Risk" Register. It is situated on the highest point of a ridge with views from the churchyard over towards Dartmoor. All that remains of the original 12th century church are the Norman porch whichhas interesting wood carvings and the font. The church was rebuilt in the 15th century and the tower with it's 3 bells dates from this time. Further restorations were made in 1837 & 1876.
