According to "Grave Markers of Duval County, Florida, 1808-1916," compiled by Lucy Ames Edwards in 1955, this tract of land was purchased by Baron Frederick Stuben Burpee in 1877. It was on the old Jacksonville, Mayport and Pablo Railroad. "It may be reached from Jacksonville now by going out Atlantic Boulevard about sixteen miles to the Girvin Road. Turn left on the Girvin Road and go about five miles. Turn left."
