Add PhotosThe cemetery is located in Franklin, Monroe, AL approximately at Penn Rd. north past the intersection of another road that runs east with no name that loops back to Lock and Dam Rd. The cemetery is off to the right in the woods. The area was called Wainwright according to the January 13, 1905 Eagle Newspaper, page 1, Lovan, Monroe County, AL. The same area was later referred to as Finchburg on the church history report cover created in 1939 from its current location since 1929 and is now currently called Franklin.
The church was organized in 1871 by Rev. Benjamin Burke of Mobile. The church location in Wainwright, Monroe County, AL, which had 5 edifices was bought from Levi Collins to hold service there as membership grew.
In 1894 or 1895, the building was burned down. The members has to worship under a brush harbor until they moved to another location nearby bought from Brother George Bryant, Sr. That location is where the church was in Wainwright approximately from 1905 until 1929.
The original church and cemetery (for the Wainwright, AL location) is connected to its current location and second cemetery at 1850 Lock & Dam Rd. Franklin, Monroe, AL. 36444.
