Ballymacarret Burial Ground once serviced the Ballymacarret Methodist Church which was on the same site that opened in 1826. The burial ground closed to burials in 1918 and fell in disrepair. Following the blitz of the area in WW2 the church was badly damaged and subsequently demolished. The burial yard which was also damaged was paved over. When the Skainos centre was built the grave yard was uncovered, 387 individuals were exhumed and cremated and their ashes interred in the present day church. A plaque exists as a memorial to them.
