Many years ago this cemetery was also called Mellinger's Union Meeting House Cemetery. People were buried at Mellinger's Union Meeting House Cemetery as early as the 1820's.
There is the very old section and a newer section. Many of the old headstones are still standing and can be read as of May 2008. A few are broken or have been moved. There are small stones lined up that are for the most part not readable.
Mellinger's Union Meeting House was a union meetinghouse built by the Lutherans, Reformed, Mennonites, and Dunkards in 1861 three quarters of a mile southwest of Schoeneck, PA. However, burials began in the early 1800s. The Shirk home east of Schoeneck was the first Mennonite meeting place in this area.
