The former collegiate church of St Peter in Vilich is associated with Vilich Abbey, founded in 978. The present church was built in the 11th century on the site of two earlier churches and served as the burial and pilgrimage church of Saint Adelaide of Vilich, the abbey's first abbess. Following the dissolution of the collegiate foundation, St Peter became the parish church of Vilich in 1806. The historic burials within the church are separate from the adjoining Vilich Cemetery.
