Hinkson Creek Cemetery is believed to have been organized around 1826, although the property for its meeting house and burial ground was not deeded until 1836. This timing suggests that a smaller congregation likely met elsewhere at first, perhaps in private homes, before acquiring a dedicated site.
Few confirmed details about the original church building have been found. No formal church records have been located, and no remains of a meeting house have been identified at the site deeded to the church. The primary evidence for the congregation's existence appears in the early meeting minutes of the Salem Baptist Church Association.
A 1941 Work Projects Administration report further suggests that the church may have been a log structure and was later used as a schoolhouse after the congregation disbanded in 1851.
