The cemetery is located in the historic Village of Dayton, established in 1685, in South Brunswick Township, New Jersey. In 1848, a Baptist Church was built on this site and the cemetery was started by the congregation. Eventually the church was moved, and in 1887 the Dayton Cemetery Association was formed and continues to maintain the cemetery to this day. Burials are still accepted.
