During WWII many farms, businesses, and a number of graves were moved to make room for Camp Adair for the Government. In all about 414 graves (the most important) were relocted from the Smith Cemetery in Lewisville to a cemetery location across the road from Fircrest Cemetery.
There is a aspault lane down the middle and the "New" Smith Cemetery is across the road and has it's own sign designating it.

A five acre tract of land was secured next to the Fir Crest Cemetery. The cemetery is located about two miles south of Monmouth on old Highway 99W, now called Helmick Road. and a portion of this was designated as the New Smith Cemetery. It is located on the William Mason DLC T-92, R-SW, S-1. The listing of persons buried at the time of the relocation was transcribed by N Runkle in 1985 from the Smith Cemetery Assoc records which covered the time period of 1885 to 1942. There were burials after the war. Many family members wanted to be buried next to their kin.
