Monroe Street Cemetery
Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, USA
Records at Highland Park Cemetery (216) 348-7210 and Western Reserve Historical Society (216) 721-5722.
Officially established in 1841 although burials took place as early as 1818. During the Civil War soldiers who died in army camps near Cleveland were buried here.
It's important to know that the families are responsible for the care and upkeep of headstones. In 2025, I uncovered 2 family headstones under 3" of sod. There may be more to find. I also uncovered a child's in M62, not knowing where M-61 ended.
This cemetery is not a priority to the city. Many branches have fallen and broken several headstones. The volunteer's are doing their best, but funds are tight.
It is a beautiful cemetery and up until just a few decades ago, the records were kept onsight.
