The cemetery, originally referred to as Bethel Graveyard, lies on the east side of Murdoch-Goshen Road (County Road 313) south of Murdoch between house numbers 10160 and 10210 just north of Grog Run Road. The cemetery is owned and maintained by Hamilton Township. The cemetery is named for Professor James Murdoch, an actor who owned land in the vicinity. The first interment at the cemetery occurred in 1806. Apparently because of its proximity to the cemetery, about a mile away at an intersection in Murdoch, the cemetery has been referred to as the Murdoch Presbyterian Church Cemetery, although the cemetery is unconnected to the church.
