History: Many of the names are associated with the Pettytown and Red Rock Communities. Bateman was a thriving town with stores, a school and a church, until the railroad came into the area. There are obituaries in the Bastrop Advertiser in 1927 and the 1960s that states the burial was at Old Bateman, but the people were buried at Old Red Rock. Other obituaries in the 1950s and 1960s mentioned Bateman Cemetery as "New Bateman Cemetery". In the 1970's the "New" part was dropped.
