"On March 25, 1861 on a small rise just east of West Chester, a new cemetery was created and appropriately named Green Mount. Throughout the years, this peaceful oasis has provided the final resting place for those whose names are famous in West Chester history. Here lie those who gave their lives during the Civil War and subsequent conflicts. Generations of local families are together in family plots. A walk through the lovely grounds at Green Mount will call to mind the many people and events that shaped West Chester history." (Green Mount Cemetery publication.)
