Reed's Church or Rieth's Church was erected in 1727 about 1/2 mile northeast of Stouchsburg. It was made of roughly hewn logs and reportedly had a tree stump for a pulpit. The church was constructed so that it may be used as a fort in the even of an Indian attack. Supposedly a vault for the storage of ammunition was placed under the earthen floor. While the cemetery remains, the church is no longer there.
Records of Reed's Cemetery published by the Tulpehocken Settlement Historical Society is extremely helpful in identifying the older tombstones.
Please note that Records of Reed's Cemetery has been updated in 2024. Row and stone numbers were updated to reflect this 2024 revision.
