The little town of Millwood in Collin Co., TX has long since vanished like many others in America. Only the cemetery remains as silent witness to the existence of a vibrant frontier community. My g-g-grandmother, Amanda, daughter of James W. and Nancy (Horton) Bullock attested that her mother, Nancy was the first burial in this cemetery. Unfortunately the original burial markers for James and Nancy, like the town of Millwood, have long since vanished. Millwood Cemetery is located about 4.25 miles SE of Lavon, TX. Take FM 2755 south then about 1/2 mile SW on CR 535 to the cemetery (N 32.993911 W -96.425765). This historical marker is located within the cemetery along with a milling stone that was from the old town of Millwood (Millwood was located about 100yds NW of the cemetery).(Photo year 2007)

This, the original entrance to the cemetery, is no longer used (a new entry has been provided). Inside this old entrance is the cemetery historical plaque and the oldest graves, many unmarked and some marked only by stone or cement blocks.

This is the new entrance to the cemetery provided to allow for burials in the new expansion of this old historic cemetery. Many thanks are due to those who cleaned and helped restore this once neglected cemetery. The cemetery is now well kept and hopefully with new use it will remain so. The Millwood Cemetery Assn (P.O. Box 32, Lavon, TX 75166)meets annually and is organized for the restoration and maintenance of the cemetery.
