Oakland Cemetery has been open since the start of the Civil War in 1861. There are over 4,000 people buried in marked and unmarked graves there, dating from the 1800's up through the present time. Currently the owners of the cemetery have abandoned the property and the City of Hampton has decided not to accept the property. This cemetery is being kept up by volunteers who come in every 3 months and maintain the property.
