The Cain Cemetery is named for John W. Cain who settled in the area about 1870.

The land, 12 rods by 13 rods, was donated to the Community at Large for a Graveyard, for One Dollar paid by John Wilson.

The Donors were John W. Cain and [second] wife S.E. Cain. They signed the deed on 29 Jul 1902. At the time, there had already been at least 11 burials. These are the burials recorded on findagrave. There are probably others whose death details are lost.

The deed was not immediately recorded. It was found among John W.'s papers after his death on 3 Dec 1916. It was recorded 27 Jul 1917 during the administration of his estate.

John W., wives Olliff K. "Olive" (Meadors) Cain and Sarah Elizabeth "Lizzie" (Holloway) Cain Peters, several children, and many other relatives are buried in this, a truly family, cemetery.
