The earliest identifiable interment in the Schofield Barracks Post Cemetery is dated from 1912, making this the generally accepted year of establishment. The cemetery contains graves of soldiers, dependents, civilian employees, Italian prisoners of war, unknowns, and executed military criminals, all of whom represent a part of the installation's history.
Many of the military casualties from the post and surrounding areas from the attack on Hawaii on December 7, 1941 were initially buried at the Post Cemetery. Many of these service members were moved to the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl once it was established in 1949.
Maintenance and oversight of the 6.3 acre Cemetery located at 1640 Lyman Road on Schofield Barracks are the responsibility of the Schofield Barracks Garrison Commander.
