St Nicholas Churchyard
Moreton, Purbeck District, Dorset, England
St. Nicholas' church is a grade II listed building. Originally dedicated to St. Magnus Martyr the dedication was changed in 1490 to St. Nicholas.
St. Nicholas church was bombed in 1940 which extensively damaged the building. As part of the post-war refurbishment all 13 windows were engraved by Sir Lawrence Whistler, who revived the art of glass engraving in the 20th century, and installed between 1955 and 1985.
Believed to be the only church (possibly in the world) to have the entirety of its windows engraved (instead of the typical stained glass).
Colonel T. E. Lawrence ("Lawrence of Arabia"), who died in 1935, is buried in the later separate churchyard extension further south of the church along Hurst Rd.
